1. A pre-purchase survey involves a complete inspection of a vessel to determine its present condition and fair market value. This type of survey can be used to secure insurnace or for financing purposes. Most buyers submit an offer to the sellers broker contingent on survey findings. Vessel's selling price is often re-negotiated after surveyor's inspection.

The pre-purchase survey includes aloft inspection of masts and rigging on sailboats, operation of all mechanical machinery during seatrials, operation of all electrical componernts and electronics. In the case of sailboats, sails are hoisted and the condition reported on. It is recommended that the vessel be hauled to inspect wetted surfaces and running gear.

Vessel's structural components, bulkheads, stringers, bearers, floors etc are inspected for structural integrity and suitability for buyer's use. Comments are made regarding vessel's cosmetic condition.

Report content includes digital photographs of vessel. The recommendations Section includes "must do" items to satisfy lending institutions and insurance companies. A comments section includes surveyor's findings of deficiencies that do not affect the vessel's insurability, but should be attended to.

The body of the report follows with text style specifications on construction and systems. A fair market value is determined using a blend of two subscriber-only internet sources to determine values, as well as up-to-date NADA and BUC NET books, and local knowledge.
